Can't change passcode on Nest, "Something went wrong. There was a problem creating a passcode."

To assist others facing the same situation I did, I found a solution for being unable to add guests or change passcodes on the Nest App. I searched everywhere for an answer, but it seemed no one had cracked this simple yet annoying message: "Something went wrong. There was a problem creating a passcode. Try again." I realized that when Google discontinued Nest Guard Security, it retained the Guard's info saved in the account, causing unsupported data/passcodes. After adding a brand new Nest Yale lock to my account, the initial setup with it, along with Nest Connect, worked well. However, when I tried to add or change my guest passcode, it didn't work, and I kept getting that same message. After hours of troubleshooting, I realized it could be linked to the previous home hub (Nest Guard), and voilà! Below you'll find the steps to fix this issue if you're in the same situation I was:

Problem Solved: Remove the discontinued Nest Guard Security from your account.

  1. Sign in to the Nest app.
  2. Tap the Settings gear (usually in the top right corner).
  3. Scroll down and find Nest Guard, then click on it.
  4. Scroll down and find Remove Nest Guard, click on it and follow the steps.
  5. Voilà! You should now be able to add guests and change passwords in the Nest app.
