Nest Therm is heating when set to Cool

Our nest was installed during the winter time so we never tested the air conditioning. When we turned on the AC today, it was heating instead of cooling. Any idea how to fix this?

Hi katnew,

Sorry to hear the situation that you are experiencing with your Nest thermostat on cooling mode. Help is here!. I have some troubleshooting steps that might help you.

1- If your system starts to blow cool air when your Nest thermostat is in Heat mode (or if it blows warm air when it's in Cool mode), change the settings for orientation of your heat pump.

  1. On your thermostat, go to Settings.
  2. Select Equipment.
  3. Select Continue > Continue.
  4. Select Heat Pump.
  5. The Nest Thermostat defaults to an O setting for heat
    pumps.
    • If the O option is highlighted, select B.
    • If the B option is highlighted, select O.
  6. Test your heating and cooling again to make sure the issue is resolved.

2-  Try making a factory reset on the device and start the set up again. Restart or reset a Nest thermostat.

3- Check this article: Troubleshoot strange heating or cooling behavior.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Chris
