Google Home app incorrectly reported that my thermostats were offline

My Google Home app reported that my Google Nest thermostats were offline when they were fully connected. There was nothing wrong with the thermostats, but restarting them fixed the incorrect information in the app. Unfortunately that's wouldn't help if it happens when I'm not at home. Is there a workaround?

Hi @relliott80,

You're right, restarting the thermostats isn't ideal when you're away. Here are a couple of workarounds to try and prevent the Google Home app from incorrectly reporting your Nest thermostats as offline:

  • Check Network Stability: Temporary network fluctuations can sometimes disrupt communication between the thermostats and the app. Ensure your Wi-Fi is stable and functioning properly. Consider restarting your router if you suspect network issues.

  • Update Apps: Outdated apps can sometimes cause compatibility problems. Make sure you're running the latest versions of both the Google Home and Nest apps. Update them if necessary and see if the issue persists.

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the app: Uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app can potentially resolve the issue of it incorrectly reporting your Nest thermostats as offline. It's a common troubleshooting step and worth trying.

I hope trying those troubleshooting steps resolves the issue of your Nest thermostats being reported as offline. If the problem persists, don't worry! We can look for some additional things we can try.

Best,

Brandon.
