Great Stuff from the Lego Harry Potter design team
Shepski· Review provided by LEGO · January 1, 2024
An absolutely stunning build that really captures the grand and illustrious nature of Gringotts. The addition of magical menagerie is a great (and accurate) touch. there is many places to pose Minifigures and create a bustling and exciting display. Besides the incredibly solid and beautiful build for the actual Bank we also get a really awesome portion designed after the deep caverns surrounding Gringotts Vaults, they capture this environment incredibly well and the included railcar system with stops is incredibly fun to use and looks great. I really appreciate the charming design for each of the vaults, and especially love the play feature and stickers used for the Lestrange family vault.
One of my personal favorite parts of the set however would be the dragon, its much larger than I expected now having it in person and the amount of detail and pose-ability is phenomenal. It really feels like the designers wanted to include something for every Lego fan, with a beautiful and impressive design for the buildings and parts of Diagon alley, but they also include a really fun and imaginative portion that still displays well and serves a good purpose. Not to mention you get a Whole Dragon with unique molded head piece As well as a phenomenal selection of minifigures and interesting pieces like Godric Gryffindor's Sword, Dumbledore's letter to the bank and Hermione's purple satchel from the deathly hallows. I think the Lego Harry potter designers absolutely nailed this one, creating a stunning, and attention grabbing display that also offers a multiple well thought out play features that don't subtract from the overall aesthetic in anyway. Along with this it has a really solid piece count and figure count for the price, offering much more for your money than many other licensed UCS sets can. The price is certainly high, but in comparison to other UCS sets that the Lego community is very passionate about, it really is a better option value-wise. The ability to connect to Diagon alley is also a phenomenal decision and is well done, with most layouts being achievable with minor if any modifications. Overall This Set is an example of how much Legos build quality and design has improved, and how great Lego products can be when talented designers are given free reign to bring unique designs to life.

The building experience especially of the base that covers the vaults is great. Since this set was announced many have speculated how many Technic elements would create the sturdiness needed for the base but LEGO surprised and provided a build that is far from a Technic set and building the base was quite interesting while experiencing how strong it actually becomes as you move forward in the build. The vaults have some nice hidden features and the dragon head is one of the few elements with prints. Unfortunately, what feels like an entire booklet of stickers comes with this set, too.
The Gringott's Bank building wasn't as fun to build as I anticipated. The building techniques are fairly simple, very few odd angles that basically should make up this building and provide its characteristics - for me that's missing. The inside is basically one big hall with a gallery that cannot be reached without magic because no staircase or anything else leads there.
The two main elements -the base with vaults and the bank building- can be put together and it's not shaky (which is something I assumed it would be) and you can actually carry the entire set, while heavy- around without the building falling off. Beyond that it is nice that you can attach it to the Diagon Alley set 75978, then without the base (or you can put a hole in your table so you can keep it together and build an actual cave under the table (which is something I am actually considering).
I don't care much for minifigures, but some of the main characters are included, some of them were already in set 75978. The Goblins are new to me as minifigures as far as I can tell.
Finally, and unfortunately, as always there was a piece missing, which is something I never had until 2020 with LEGO sets. Since then I only had a handful of sets that had all and correct pieces in them (often all pieces are there but in the wrong color, for example). It takes LEGO roughly two weeks to send the missing/replacement pieces which significantly impacts the building experience.
The box gives a false impression of how much is actually in there. There is a smaller white box inside the outside packaging and all bags fit in that little box that is about 40% of the volume of the outside packaging. A significant part of the weight comes from the 4 building instruction booklets. There is a nice aspect to it: technically 2-3 people can build at the same time, 1-2 build the two sections of the cave/vaults and one is building the actual bank. So it can be a nice thing to do together. But it won't take you very long. It took me just a notch over 6 hours to build the entire thing by myself.
This is a nice set to have but there are some downsides to it. For me the biggest one is the price point. This set in the LEGO universe has a value of around $300. The $430 is an unreasonably high and unjustified price and while I like the set, it is absolutely not worth this price. Maybe if sales numbers are down LEGO will reduce the price to a more reasonable level, like they did with the fussball table set or the big Hulkbuster. With a 30% discount I would say buy it and enjoy having the set.
Overall Disapointment

I've been excited since the rumors of a new Gringotts that would cap the street for my Diagon ally. When I saw this, well, I was less excited. I had to get it anyway because how long will it be until I can get something else that will fulfill its replacement? 1) I don't love that I am forced to get underground work that sits elsewhere from the scene because as part of the scale, city, it Gringotts might as well be launching off like a shuttle out of Diagon. 2) I'm super sat that in a $400+ model that LEGO could not or would not find a better fix that the floating TS outside of Gringot. Yes, you can cut the sticker. Should you have to? There are stickers that go right to the edge with the graphic; the piece could have been a printed piece in this almost 1/2 grand model; the spacing between the letters could have been widened to compensate. 3) The dragon was a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting something grand that covered the building while resting, like WWoHP at Universal. What I got was something that was lacking. Spend brick cound from the mining track on the dragon instead, in my opinion. It has about the same price as the 75978 Diagon Alley for about 700 less pieces when areas are lacking, which is not a huge issue (cost/piece) IF all areas are sufficiently filled in and accounted for. I found that the piece-difference made a large impact of my sense of grandeur and impact of the building.

TL;DR: This set was not thoughtful of the people who were looking forward to an add-on for the 75978 Diagon Ally set. Coupled with other misses, for me, I would not recommend this for the majority of people.
Gringotts 2023 is THE BEST HP LEGO set!

I have been collecting Harry Potter LEGO’s since 2007 and I can remember my excitement when the first 2011 Gringotts came out. It was one of my favorite buildings from the movies and LEGO making it into a model was a dream come true. Fast forward to 2020 when Diagon Alley came out, I was surprised not to see Gringotts there but I figured that it would come out later so I patiently waited. Well…IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! This set is fantastic! When I first saw pictures of this set I knew I had to get it immediately. After building it, it still amazes me how LEGO was able to make an underground vault system that is also able to hold up another building. The interior is amazing and I really loved to see the marble printed pieces for the columns. Now, the vault system was what surprised me most. It was totally unexpected and really made this set whole. They even give you all three of the vaults from the major plot points in the movies. This set is timeless and definitely is one of my favorites from LEGO.

Now, the only thing that bothered me about this set is the lovely sticker on the front that says “Gringot ts Bank”. My question is, does this drive anyone else nuts or is it just me. I tried putting the stickers as close as possible, which made it better, but I am still bothered by the gap. I don’t know if there just wasn't any other option but if possible LEGO, can we make sure single words aren't split up on different stickers for future sets. Otherwise, this set is perfect from the building and to the price! One of the best sets LEGO has ever made and definitely is worth the purchase. Great job designers and can’t wait to see what is released in the future! Would love to see a Collectors edition Chamber of Secrets or Knight Bus one day! Till then, back to waiting!
