Waringstown joined CIYMS at the top of Group B in the LVS T20 Cup on Friday night with a five-wicket victory over Civil Service North.

Adam Dennison and Morgan Topping put on 77 for the first wicket in reply to the visitors’ 133 for eight and although both were dismissed in the space of three balls, James McCollum eased them home with five overs to spare.

Graham Hume has been a bonus player for Waringstown this week after being forced to pull out of the Ireland squad for the Tri-Series in the Netherlands because of visa difficulties, and last night he bowled his three overs for just nine runs.

In Group A, Lisburn recorded their first win, bowling out North Down for 87 and a 69-run success. New signings Ryan Macbeth and Adam Kennedy shared five wickets, and only James Shannon and 20-year-old Zimbabwean student Stephen Saul held up the hosts, adding 33 for the third wicket.

Macbeth had Ali Shields caught off the second ball of the innings, and fellow opener Ani Chore was caught behind to give the former Brigade bowler his second wicket at the start of the third over. After that, it was always an uphill task for a North Down side who lost their opening match to Instonians by nine wickets.

Nigel Jones set up the win with an innings of 68 off just 44 balls, with four fours and five sixes, dominating a second-wicket stand of 42 with professional Faiz Fazal, who was out for seven. Captain Neil Whitworth then controlled the rest of the innings, bringing up his half-century in the 19th over, the ball after hitting Kerwin Mungroo for back-to-back sixes.
