Health spending outstrips tax cuts in budget beauty contest

A $5.7 billion boost to defence spending and a $623 million-per-year decision to pay superannuation on public paid parental leave were the two least popular measures in the federal budget, according to a deep dive into the May 14 document.

Both measures failed to achieve majority support, whereas those most favoured by voters were big spending initiatives on Medicare and cheaper medicines.
