Customer Review

I will give the product 5 stars and give Amazon's delivery a 1 star.

First the delivery. The rice cooker was delivered in its original box, with just a UPS label slapped on the outside. The problem is the original box is paper thin with only a couple of thin styrofoam as protection. It was never meant as a shipping box. The rice cooker arrived in horrible condition. The corner of the box and the protective styrofoam was crushed and split open. There were a bunch of tapes band aided around the box. The manual and cookebook inside were crumpled. I suspected the rice cooker has gone through a very rough trip, probably with heavy object stacked on top. The cooker was dead on arrival, which was likely due to the rough handling and minimal protection. The cooker should have been enclosed inside a regular Amazon shippiping box. I returned the first rice cooker and complained to Amazon customer service, who promised that the replacement cooker will be shipped with much more protection. Two days later, the replacement cooker arrived, which was still shipped in the original product box, sigh. This time UPS probably was a bit more careful in its shipping and it arrived in better shape. However the corner of the box was still crumpled and split. Buf fortunately the cooker works this time. Amazon should really try to improve its shipment packaging of this cooker. It is a lot more costly to them to have the cooker damaged during the shipping.

Now comes to the cooker itself. I tried to book both regular white Calrose rice and brown rice. Both came out very well. The rice is more springy, and holds its shape better than my old cooker. Unlike my old cooker, the rice on the bottom of the pan is not dried out. Each individual of rice retains its shape and is less mushy, but the center of the rice is well cooked so it is not hard. That was more apparent when brown rice was cooked. On my old cooker, it was very difficult to get the texture of the rice right. On my old cooker, either the rice was too mushy (too much water) or it is too hard. Even if the water content is right, the rice still was a bit too hard and my daughter hate brown rice. However, on this cooker, the brown rice was well cooked, with a perfect texture tasting like a nutty tasting white rice. One other thing that I like about the cooker is the lid, steam vent and the inner plate are all detachable for easy cleaning. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the cooker. If you eat a lot of rice, and especially brown rice, this cooker is well worth it.
