I’d been contemplating buying a Zojirushi that costs twice as much when this unit caught my eye. It appears to have all the same functions, and it’s made by a reputable Japanese firm, so I went for it. Does it work as well as the Zojirushi? I can’t say, but I will say it has worked very well for me so far. I do my steel cut oats in it every morning, and it produces perfect oats without any mess or need for monitoring the pot. That alone is worth the price. It makes perfect rice, and excellent jook/congee/dakjuk/okayu, too. One minor complaint: The illustration shows an “oatmeal” setting, but the delivered unit has a “quick cook” setting in its place. I’m pretty sure these are functionally the same thing (the model number is the same), differing only in name, but it might result in some purchasers returning their cooker, thinking they were sent the wrong model.

I make hot cereal most mornings. For a long time I used a Zojirushi family size cooker but it was just too large for a single portion. I’ve used this Toshiba every day since I received it - about 3 months now - and am quite happy. This unit stays super clean when making hot cereal - no more cleaning the inside of the lid - there’s only steam when the cereal is done so just wipe it dry. Sweet. Also, the pan is much thicker than my other rice cooker so it feels like it’s going to last a long time. So far so good!

The touch screen is a bit annoying as it’s easy to accidentally touch a menu button while opening and closing (wish it used buttons which required a bit of resistance to depress), but that’s a minor issue. Makes good rice and fantastic porridge. Takes up little counter space and is pleasing to the eye.
