This is really designed to link your PC to a device with a 5-pin MIDI input and/or a device with a 5-pin MIDI out. You generally won't use this to connect most MIDI controllers directly to a synthesizer.

This cable requires USB power, and the USB MIDI out on most controllers cannot supply power (they often serve as the power IN for the device). Therefore, this will not work as a USB MIDI to 5-pin MIDI converter for linking your entry level controller to a synthesizer. If your controller has separate 5-pin MIDI out, just use a regular 5-pin MIDI cable for much cheaper.

I was looking for something that would connect my MIDI guitar to my PC via USB cable, so I would be able to use the MIDI guitar in my DAW, this interface cable made that possible, it works. The MIDI guitar that I have uses a proprietary MIDI cable connector on the end that connects to the guitar. The other end has the standard 5 pin male MIDI connector. I also used a 5 pin MIDI extender adapter to connect the guitar MIDI cable to the MIDI USB interface cable. It shows up in my DAW as a MIDI controller ready to play and record any sound. There is a very slight delay when using this device but that is to be expected, that’s normal but a lot less latency than running through a MIDI keyboard to the DAW. It works great. I hope this helps.

Bought this since it said it was USB C, but it's actually USB A and they put an adapter in the box. That wouldn't have been a big deal except I can't get it to work using the adapter or even plugging it in to a different computer without the adapter. After trying this cable on 3 computers and a tablet using two different midi controllers and even trying to find a driver for it I can confidently say that this device is defective in a review. I'd recommend avoiding this brand even if you have to pay an extra $2-3
