CBS Interactive is seeking a senior director, communications, to support CBS Interactive’s strategic communications initiatives and directly oversee key brands within its tech, games and media portfolio. The senior director, communications, will direct day-to-day and long-term communications initiatives for iconic consumer Internet properties such as CNET, GameSpot, CHOW, and many more. In addition, the senior director, communications, will play an important support role in advising CBS Interactive’s management team on internal and external communications initiatives. In addition, the candidate will work closely with counterparts throughout the broader CBS Corporation, including its entertainment and corporate communications functions, to develop and implement communications strategies and ensure gain adherence to corporate standards.
 
This is a role for an experienced communications professional accustomed to counseling C-level and management-level executives and integrating with colleagues across an array of operational functions (editorial, marketing, legal, business development, ad sales and more). The senior director, communications must have an understanding of operating within a large, complex, publicly held corporation. The candidate also must demonstrate an aptitude for creating compelling, strategic campaigns that distinguish the brands, position executives as thought leaders, and maximize opportunities within other media outlets, including CBS’ array of television and radio platforms.

Requirements

12+ years of experience in communications/public relations
Substantial knowledge of the digital media, technology and entertainment industries or equivalent
Demonstrated ability to create results-driven communications campaigns that align to broader business objectives
A natural, experienced storyteller able to work with editors, producers and reporters to craft effective narratives
The ability to influence and drive alignment among executives and peers at all levels throughout an organization
Demonstrated flexibility for working across disparate business units
Strong critical-thinking and analytical skills combined with a propensity toward creativity
Strong writing and presentation skills, combined with executive presence to help drive consensus
Strong media relations experience and a track record of developing strong relationships with journalists
Strong social-media savvy
Willingness and ability to work both strategically and tactically
Dedicated, responsive team player
Bachelor’s degree required. Experience in Internet and/or media sectors strongly preferred
Must successfully pass a background check
In addition, CBS will be guided by applicable federal, state and local laws when considering for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories.

This position reports to the senior vice president, communications, for CBS Interactive with significant interaction with other CBS Interactive senior executives.
