Stephanie (Tia Mowry-Hardrict)
Fun used to mean spending time with her girlfriends drinking wine and talking about shoes. Now only her 15-year-old stepdaughter, Gabby, wants to hear about the shoes – mainly because she wants to borrow them. Stephanie is a career-driven food blogger who loves being married to her new husband, Charlie, and stepmom to his three kids. But being a stepmom means finding a balance between being a mother, a friend, and a wife, all while maintaining a sense of self.
Charlie (Michael Boatman)
Charlie's a cardiologist and a loving father and husband. When it comes to his kids, he's a strong believer in rules and structure, which doesn't always mesh with Stephanie's style. But because he loves her, he's willing try things her way… for now, keeping the "I told you so(s)" to a minimum – after all she's got her mother Maggie for that.
Maggie (Sheryl Lee Ralph)
Stephanie's over-bearing mother is never shy about making known her point of view on parenting, or pointing out its superiority to her daughter's approach.
Gabby (Sydney Park)
Fifteen going on twenty-something, Gabby considers herself old enough to make her own rules. Being around Stephanie, the two sometimes gel like sisters (like when it comes to fashion or the latest dance), making the stepmother/ stepdaughter relationship a little tougher to swallow.
James (Tylen Jacob Williams)
The middle child, eleven-year-old James is the troublemaker in the family, always one step ahead angling for personal gain, or sometimes just trying to needle his older sister.
Aaron (Damarr Calhoun)
Seven-year-old Aaron is the youngest and most in need of a Stephanie’s mothering. He’s a big fan of his new stepmom, but he’s also easily manipulated by his siblings and enticed by their schemes.
