Amazing quality! I read reviews on everything before I purchase and according to other reviews on this level everything pretty much rings true. Outstanding craftsmanship and the pictures don't do it justice until you hold it in your hand and see it! Yes it is a bit heavy for a level, but can't see any man actually griping about the weight of such a small item , how long do you actually hold a level ..WOW ! However in adverse to what I just said, if you're a guy that uses a small pouch and going up and down ladders all day it may off balance your pouch a bit because of its obvious weight and quality of anything you'll find at a box store and you may need to strategically place it in your pouch to find a comfortable home for it...The green highlighted bubble vile is very nice and easy to read,, and again the pics don't do it justice. Long story short is if you want a great tool that does what it says and will last, buy this ! Note for anyone planning to use it on painted metal surfaces, the magnet is very strong and use caution when removing or sliding across as it could damage the painted surface. I am an appliance tech and it works with flawless accuracy for small applications when attached to a true surface. An excellent addition to the Sola for any Pro or homeowner is the Stabila pocket pro for quick checks in smaller applications that don't require the use of longer levels

Accurate, easily readable, and beautifully crafted torpedo level

First, a confession here. I didn't actually NEED this level. I have a Stabila torpedo level that Has served me faithfully and well. I ordered the Sola level because I have been impressed with a longer Sola purchased earlier this year.

I'm looking at them both now as I write this review. Here's my take on the Sola. The Sola is the same length, and essentially the same height, and a little heavier than the Stabila. The casting is a little cleaner on the Sola - there isn't an unfinished edge anywhere on it. The Sola has a much clearer sight line to the horizontal level vial on the Sola - the vial is cylindrical (outside profile) as opposed to the rectangular block that contains the Stabila vial - so there is no "edge" on the acrylic block to look through on the Sola, and the vial itself is larger and easier to see. The vertical bubbles are essentially the same size and readability.

Both are accurate and very well made. If weight is a consideration (as in you carry in your tool belt all day) then I'd probably give the nod to the Stabila. If you eyes are getting a little older, the Sola is a little easier to read. While the overall dimensions of the two are close to identical, putting them side by side visually, the bulk of the body on the Sola is a little over a half inch taller than the Stabila, so the Stabila would be an easier it in a tool pouch. Shape-wise, and I recognize that this is a very subjective comment, the Stabila is a little easier to handle and hold, partly because of lighter weight, but also slightly smaller bulk and because of the shape of the casting itself.

Bottom line is that the Sola is a worthy competitor, well-made (built like a tank) and has the feel of a tool made by craftsmen who are very proud of their craft. Definitely a keeper.

A small torpedo level is one of those tools that you should splurge on quality. This one is amazing, a friend used it and a week later had swapped his stabile level out for this one. It is one of the easiest levels to read I've ever used, even in low light (which is huge, because I don't want to have to mess with a battery powered LED lit level....just one more thing to break). It's built like a tank, solid aluminum with some kind of super tough epoxy coating. Not to mention it looks amazing.

Sola proved themselves to me with this one, I hope to swap out some of my other old levels in the near future.

I do worry about that large bubble up top, it feels sturdy enough, but a long fall from a ladder and landing on the wrong spot might damage it. But I'm not sure that any other level would fair much better.

This is a really nice level. As an industrial pipefitter and a tool junkie I have quite a few torpedo levels and, yes, I have a few Stabilas.

Here are my pro's
1) It is really easy to read and there isn't too much space between the bubble and the end marks.
2) The magnet is in the center as opposed to the Stabila. I will not use my Stabila on two-hole pins!
3) It is easy to spot from a distance and your friends/coworkers probably don't have one.

My con's
1) The v-groove has paint on it unlike the Stabila. I'm nitpicking here....
2)The plumb and 45 vials are a little smaller.

This is a great level. I’ve been a pipefitter for 10 years and have gone through tons of levels (empire, craftsman, Irwin, Klein, Milwaukee) and this by far is the best I’ve ever used. It’s heavy and heavy duty. I was going to buy a stabila but I liked the shape of this one better. The magnet is strong and the vials are easy to read. The only thing I would change is that there needs to be more than one magnet on the bottom.
