The Conners Is Losing Its Wednesdays-at-8 Time Slot on ABC — Find Out Why

Beginning Wednesday, May 1, ABC‘s most-watched comedy will forfeit the Wednesday lead-off spot. New episodes will now air at 9:30/8:30c, behind Abbott Elementary.
As previously reported, Jeopardy! Masters Season 2 will take over the 8 pm hour that night and remain there for the duration of the 2023-24 broadcast season. Fellow Wednesday comedy Not Dead Yet already wrapped its season on April 24, which leaves ABC with two comedies — Abbott and Conners — that will now air back-to-back, from 9-10 pm.
BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, MAY 1:
8 pm Jeopardy! Masters
9 pm Abbott Elementary (previously renewed for Season 4)
9:30 pm The Conners (new time slot)
Four episodes remain in The Conners’ strikes-shortened, 13-episode Season 6 — and the future of the Roseanne spinoff is in serious doubt. Production had already wrapped on Season 6 when it was first reported on April 16 that cast negotiations — which are typically ironed out by this time each spring — had not yet begun.
Born from the ashes of 2018’s Roseanne revival, each season of The Conners requires that new, one-year deals be reached with legacy cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Lecy Goranson. ABC and production company Tom Werner Entertainment were in talks (as of April 16) to bring the sitcom back — likely for a seventh and final season — but there remains a very real chance that The Conners will conclude with its upcoming Season 6 finale.
In the event that The Conners is cancelled, producers are prepared. A tag scene was reportedly filmed and will be added to the Season 6 finale if it turns out to be the series finale.

how stupid are they, if this is the move then Connors should be 9pm. why lead out of a show that’s struggling (critical darling but struggling). Then theyre gna use this as an excuse to cancel SMH.

You don’t understand the television business, Edd. Ratings don’t care about your feelings. Abbott is young, and The Conners is old, i.e. expensive. The Conners NEEDS that lead-in audience. You should think of this as The Conners being thrown a lifeline, as it’s already on the bubble.
Connors ratings are higher and the 18-49 are roughly the same. 9:30 will likely cause Connors to drop off which will make network brass say “oh expensive and dropped ratings…. hmmm.” when they did it to themselves, hence me saying excuse for cancellation. I understand television is a business, this just seems like bad business.
If they were renewed for a 7th and final season. It doesn’t matter if they lose viewers. They only care if they show that could continue to go forward keeping viewers. If you were having a going out of business sale. Would you invest more of you cash into it?
The show lost its relevance after Roseanne was cut from the show. (Okay, c’mon you downvoters…get to work. lol)
I wouldn’t say it lost its relevance….it has been on for many years now, and has been a top comedy on broadcast TV during its time.
Watch paint dry would be more entertaining then Roseanne.

Personally I prefer The Conners over Roseanne. Season 6-9 was lackluster and went down hill.
In Canada, GlobalTV simulcasts CBS’ 90-mins Survivor at 8pm so they can’t simulcast Abbott at 9pm, it’s been pushed to 10:30pm (Big Brother Canada at 9:30pm).

CTV simulcasts Fox’s Masked Singer at 8pm and CBS’ 90-min Amazing Race at 9:30pm, so they’ve already slot Conners at 9pm since February.

I get the choice of 8:30 or 10:30 AT where I am depending on the channel.
Why are you canceling good shows like the Conners and having so many quiz shows?
They’re cheap. The main cast of Conners each make 375,000+ per episode. It’s also why it’s probably getting canceled.
Cost on scripted shows is high. NCIS HI shoots in HAWAII. That is expensive, on top of the expense of action scenes, ON TOP of the expense of a large cast. It was just too expensive.

Similarly, Todd had a large cast, but it’s problem was that the two leads were very expensive. At least, very expensive relative to other tv stars. If the show were a big hit, cool. But it isn’t.

Meanwhile, they shoot 10 of these dumb quiz shows in a week. In 6 weeks they can shoot a 22 ep season, completely. Even the post production is done.

The casts on reality competition shows are cheap (outside of the judges).
This is stupid. They’re taking their highest rated sitcom and putting it in a time slot that is sure to lose ratings. I guess they’re done with this show. I’m glad they filmed a final scene for the finale that will give the series closure when it gets canceled.

I’m sorry, but if it is the most watched sitcom, why would they get rid of it? I mean, I haven’t seen the costsof producing the series and what it is making in terms of profit, but if it is the most watched and is losing money, then something has gone awry.

abc is negotiating with the producers for a 7th season… that means they want it back. that’s not a guarantee but it’s not like they aren’t negotiating. the article everyone is referring to makes that clear… abc wants it back abc is negotiating with tom werner the producer to bring it back. and then will move on the cast who they know at this point want to keep coming back.
my guess is since conners hit netflix and syndication in the fall that abc wants a piece of that. that’s common for shows not owned by the network. but producers dont like sharing. that’s what could end it… but abc is trying to get a 7th season. then negotiating with the cast comes next. the difference between this time and previous times is the added windfall tom werner is getting.
Conners definitely deserves a good send off. So I hope it is picked up for a 7th season. Also Conners seems to be everywhere now. It’s also on Tubi tv
I love the show. I watched seasons 1-5 on Netflix in a matter of days, then scrambled to Hulu for season 6. Now I wait for it! I don’t get to watch live tv anymore.

I love watching The Conners and have watched all the episodes up into the 6th season. I hope it continues on with a 7th!
All the shows project messages, that I think all types of families can relate, in one way or another. That to me is very important.
I enjoy seeing the high quality of all the guest actors that appear on the show. That tells me, that this show has the backing of their fellow actors, no matter how high their status and popularity.

I will watch the conners whenever they come on I don’t have hulu are cable. Very few good shows left why don’t they cancel abbot elementary,and all the other stupid shows out there, like not dead yet. Will Trent .tv nowadays suck nothing but sports and stupid shows.
