Biden, Trump Agree to First Presidential Debate of 2024 Election Season — Find Out When & Where
President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have both agreed to their first debate of the 2024 election cycle, to be held on the historically early side — Thursday, June 27 — and air on CNN.
Biden accepted CNN’s invite on Wednesday morning, sharing on social media, “Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place.” Trump responded in kind not long after, telling Fox News, “I’ll be there.”
According to CNN, the debate will be held in the network’s Atlanta studios with no audience present. CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash will moderate.
Both presumptive candidates later said that they have also agreed to a second debate, to be held Sept. 10 and air on ABC. David Muir and Linsey Davis of ABC News will moderate that event, our sister site Deadline reports.
Election Day this year is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
It was a month ago that major broadcast and cable news networks released a joint statement urging the “presumptive presidential nominees” to commit to general election debates. The letter was signed by CNN as well as ABC News, The Associated Press, CBS News, C-SPAN, Fox News Media, NBCUniversal News Group, NewsNation, Noticias Univision (Univision Network News), NPR, PBS NewsHour and USA Today.
That petition outlined the importance of debates, calling them a “rich tradition in our American democracy” and a “vital” component in elections since 1976. “In each of those elections, tens of millions have tuned in to watch the candidates debating side by side, in a competition of ideas for the votes of American citizens,” the letter stated.
“If there is one thing Americans can agree on during this polarized time, it is that the stakes of this election are exceptionally high,” the letter concluded. “Amidst that backdrop, there is simply no substitute for the candidates debating with each other, and before the American people, their visions for the future of our nation.”
How about in this debate we have mic control only to those who answering questions? We don’t need another clown show.
Yeah moderators need to be able to turn mics off. The last round was embarrassing for…well…humanity.
From what I understand, the mic will be on only when it is that participant’s turn to speak.

The fact that debates are even in question with these two idiots is ridiculous. Presidential candidates debate one another so voters can make as informed a decision as possible. But I guess when somehow the choice is between geriatric old men, which is still beyond pathetic, even debating for 2 hours is something that has to be up in the air. The state of US politics the last 10 years is just gross. I still can’t believe these are the 2 candidates we have in 2024. It’s terrifying and depressing. The US is effed.

Biden won the debates last time too.. and Trump is even more unhinged than he was then.. and the “earpiece” conspiracies need to stop.. it is impossible to debate while wearing an earpiece.
We’re starting a pool for who loses their temper first, who gets bleeped the most and whether Biden just walks off the stage.
It’s honestly depressing that these two are our choices for November. Anyone being honest with themselves can see the mental and physical decline in Biden, and he wasn’t exactly sharp when he took office. Trump is a bombastic, self-aggrandizing oaf who isn’t that much younger than Biden. RFK isn’t a real option. We need age and term limits for our elected officials.
Term limits at far more important than age limits. Age limits should be looked at and I believe that 70 should be the cut off. The members of Congress should serve no more than 12 years and after leaving office they can not become a lobbyist for at least 4 to 6 years. As far as the Supreme Court goes, they should only get eight years beyond the time that the present that appointed them leaves office. No longer should member the Supreme Court be there for life. In doing so you are basically giving the president that put them in the position sometimes 20 or 30 years after they have left office and maybe even passed away.
The problem with age limits is they aren’t a universal indicator. Bernie Sanders is older than both of them, and whenever I see him speak, he still seems sharp as a tack. We do need some sort of way to determine if someone is still fit for duty though.
Term limits in Congress are definitely more important but sadly will probably never happen, because that doesn’t serve the interest of those in Congress.
I like the idea of not having a crowd for the debate, that will definitely help some.
