First, find a sterile colostrum harvesting syringe. Our Colostrum Harvesting Kit contains 5 x sterile colostrum harvesting syringes and caps. Alternatively, you can purchase these at chemists or online.

1ml sterile syringes are best for collecting colostrum which can be bought in pharmacies or online. We find 1ml the best as each syringe can be defrosted and used without any wastage. Capped syringes (syringes with caps or lids) are not necessary but may be preferred to eliminate contamination risks.

Discuss antenatal expressing with your midwife or health visitor. They will explain how to hand express and store your colostrum and provide you with free syringes. It is important to use this opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Up until now, the only option for antenatal expressing of colostrum is into single-use plastic syringes. However, this is less than ideal as these syringes cannot be reused and harm the planet. Plastic also has the potential to leach harmful chemicals into your precious liquid gold!
